Slide rule type selector for sewage lifting units

KSB now offers a slide rule type selector that helps to size and select floodable sewage lifting units for building services applications.

According to KSB, the front side of the slide rule serves to establish the flow rate Q and discharge head H required for selecting the pump. Functions also include establishing the design units (DU), sizing the piping as well as calculating the head losses in piping, valves and fittings.

With the slide rule's rear side it is possible to select the optimum pump hydraulic system on the basis of the flow rate and discharge head. In addition, the user can calculate the discharge pipe's volume and the tank size as a function of the suction head.

Hydraulic pump for accuracy and control

Enerpac has developed the XVARI® Technology pump, a hydraulic pump designed for high oil delivery, precise control and ergonomic operation.

The XVARI® Technology replaces the widely-used linear air motor technology with improved ergonomics, precise metering of the hydraulic oil flow and also offers a higher oil delivery for increased productivity and efficiency.

XVARI® Technology enables users to continuously and precisely control the amount of hydraulic oil flow in advance and retract mode and thereby the speed of the hydraulic cylinder or tool that the pump is powering - specifically for jobs that require accurate load positioning, aligning and controlled descend.

Industrial valve market to reach US$56 billion

The world market for industrial valves will reach approximately US$56 billion by 2012 according to Industrial Valves: World Market, an online report by the McIlvaine Company. Compared to 2007 estimates of US$45 billion, this figure represents worldwide growth just short of 25% over the next five years.

Asia has been showing extremely high growth rates for industrial valve revenues and the report suggests that by 2012 the industrial valve market in Asia will grow by 32%, reaching US$21.6 billion compared to US$16.3 million in 2007. By contrast, 15% growth over the same time period has been forecast for the Americas. McIlvaine predicts that automatic regulation and control valves will continue to comprise the largest market share.

Pressure boosting pumps

Stuart Turner has introduced the next generation of its Monsoon pumps for all water pressure boosting applications. The pumps have been designed to be more compact, offering greater flow, pressure and efficiency than previous versions. They run cooler than before, prolonging their lifespan, and include new hoses with integral isolating valves and threaded connections on the pumps, which Stuart Turner says make them easier to install and service.

Adrian Mettem, managing director of Stuart Turner, commented: "The new range is the culmination of five years of product development in response to customer feedback, resulting in our best products to date. We are confident they will help strengthen our position as the market leader in this sector."

Progressing cavity pump withstands extreme temperatures

PCM has launched the VulcainT, for the thermal recovery of heavy oil. The all-metal progressing cavity pump, PCM VulcainT, has been designed to withstand the extreme downhole temperatures of thermal oil recovery, and is capable of pumping extremely hot(350°C/660°F) and extremely viscous fluids.

Grundfos opens sales company in Kazakhstan

Grundfos has recently opened a sales company in Kazakhstan, to continue to strengthen its position in Central Asia. This new company will provide support not only to Kazakhstan, but also to neighbouring Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

This move follows a period of extensive sales growth in the area and is part of the longer term strategy that will see more services being delivered closer to where the demand exists.

To mark the opening, Grundfos donated and installed a complete SQFlex system which consists of a water treatment system, pipe-work, solar panels and a wind turbine to supply renewable energy to a school in Shieliysky, a particularly poor region of Kazakhstan.

Fixturlaser Offers Fast Pit Stops

Equipment downtime, scheduled or unscheduled, is something that operators try to avoid, or at the very least, minimize. With an eye toward speeding the process of measuring and aligning machine trains, thereby decreasing downtime, Fixturlaser has announced upgrades to its Fixturlaser XA wireless shaft alignment system. “Do F1 mechanics use a tire wrench in the pit? Never! The pit crew uses the top-of-the-line tools, since they need to get the car back on track fast,” said Hans Svensson, managing director of Fixturlaser, Sweden. “The same goes for machines in production — if you want to be a winner you need to use fast tools.” A machine train (power train or multiple drive units) is three or more units with rotating shafts connected to each other.

Ebara seawater pumps for multi-stage flash evaporation

Throughout the Middle East and Arabian Gulf, multi-stage flash evaporation desalination is very much the preferred technology for the production of potable water. Several factors contribute to this, the key ones being the abundance of waste heat and the corrosive nature of the region's seawater. Bryan Orchard looks at how one company, Japan's Ebara, has addressed the issue of seawater intake pumping.
