Slide rule type selector for sewage lifting units
Submitted by powerservices on Thu, 07/31/2008 - 12:46.KSB now offers a slide rule type selector that helps to size and select floodable sewage lifting units for building services applications.
According to KSB, the front side of the slide rule serves to establish the flow rate Q and discharge head H required for selecting the pump. Functions also include establishing the design units (DU), sizing the piping as well as calculating the head losses in piping, valves and fittings.
With the slide rule's rear side it is possible to select the optimum pump hydraulic system on the basis of the flow rate and discharge head. In addition, the user can calculate the discharge pipe's volume and the tank size as a function of the suction head.

Truck pumps get a redesign
Submitted by powerservices on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 12:50.Blackmer has introduced the TXD1200 Series high-speed truck pumps for the light petroleum products market. The TXD1200 Series has been developed for pumping light petroleum products such as diesel, heating oil, gasoline, kerosene, avgas, biodiesel and ethanol.
Although most parts and options remain common to the current TXD pumps, basic changes to the TXD1200 Series include a new cylinder body, with indicator holes drilled near the feet on the discharge side of the pump for external identification. In addition, all the models are designed with a new rotor and shaft, along with new lock-nuts and nylon tipped set screws that reduce maintenance requirements.

Grinder and screen package
Submitted by powerservices on Wed, 06/11/2008 - 10:35.Mono® NOV launched the Discam, a grinder and screen package, which the company says offers a more effective and low maintenance alternative for handling screenings.
With a capacity of up to 16,000 m3/h, the new Discam has the ability to capture up to 95% of solids at 5 mm or 9 mm aperture sizes. Mono NOV says this solution, which combines the self-cleaning Discreen® with a high torque Muncher, needs no manual attendance or cleaning and eliminates the disposal costs of handling debris extracted by many screening processes. Typical applications for the Discam system include pump station screening and inlet works screening.

World's first all-metal progressing cavity pump
Submitted by powerservices on Fri, 01/18/2008 - 17:34.Positive displacement pump specialist PCM has developed what is reportedly the world's first all-metal progressing cavity pump. The PCM Vulcain pump is capable of pumping extremely hot (350°C/660°F) and extremely viscous fluids.
"Standard progressing cavity pumps (PCP), sucker rod pumps (SRP) and electrical submersible pumps (ESP) are limited in terms of maximum operating temperature. In contrast, the PCM Vulcain is the only pump that works efficiently at the high temperatures of thermal recovery," says Nicolas Parise, Director, PCM Oil & Gas Business Unit. "Elastomer stators make standard progressing cavity pumps unsuitable for use at extremely hot temperature - and other existing pump technologies are not as inherently efficient or reliable as progressing cavity pumps."

Ebara seawater pumps for multi-stage flash evaporation
Submitted by powerservices on Fri, 01/18/2008 - 11:56.Throughout the Middle East and Arabian Gulf, multi-stage flash evaporation desalination is very much the preferred technology for the production of potable water. Several factors contribute to this, the key ones being the abundance of waste heat and the corrosive nature of the region's seawater. Bryan Orchard looks at how one company, Japan's Ebara, has addressed the issue of seawater intake pumping.
