Large diameter valve for corrosives and abrasives

ITT has launched the Fabri-Valve S16, an urethane lined knife gate valve. The valves aim to provide an economical solution for abrasive and corrosive applications requiring large diameter valves. In addition, ITT has added flat face flange models to its line of Fabri-Valve® XS150-ULV Valves.

The S16 includes ITT's perimeter sealing technology, a sealing design which is aimed to provide zero discharge, bi-directional and drip tight shutoff performance. Although the S16 was specifically designed for gypsum and limestone slurries found in Flue Gas Desulfurization(FGD), ITT hope that its features will also be desirable in numerous abrasive and corrosive process slurry applications.

Grinder and screen package

Mono® NOV launched the Discam, a grinder and screen package, which the company says offers a more effective and low maintenance alternative for handling screenings.

With a capacity of up to 16,000 m3/h, the new Discam has the ability to capture up to 95% of solids at 5 mm or 9 mm aperture sizes. Mono NOV says this solution, which combines the self-cleaning Discreen® with a high torque Muncher, needs no manual attendance or cleaning and eliminates the disposal costs of handling debris extracted by many screening processes. Typical applications for the Discam system include pump station screening and inlet works screening.

Rotary lobe pump for hygienic applications

Mono® NOV has launched a new range of hygienic rotary lobe pumps that has been developed to improve the process efficiency of food and beverage manufacturers.

The Luna™ range of rotary lobe pumps is the latest addition to Mono's hygienic pump offering for food and beverage applications. It consists of high efficiency positive displacement pumps, which feature a modular and simple design which,Mono says, can minimize maintenance requirements and deliver longer life.

Submersible dewatering sump pumps

Davey Water Products has launched a new addition to its range of pumping and water transfer equipment. Designated as the heavy duty Sump Pump range of submersible dewatering pumps, the pumps offer single phase motors up to 1.5kW and three phase electric motors up to 7.5kW in power are held ex-stock, although three phase versions up to 22 kW will be able to be built to order.

Dover forms pump solutions group

Dover Corporation has formed a US$300 million Pump Solutions Group (PSG). This grouping joins its major legacy brands, Wilden, Blackmer, with Griswold and Almatec to form a pump organization with broad array of pump technologies totaling over US$300 million in annualized revenue. The PSG resides within Dover's Fluid Solution platform.

The PSG's hand has been further strengthened with the acquisition of the Neptune Chemical Pump Company, a manufacturer of chemical metering pumps, chemical feed systems and peripheral products with emphasis on water and waste water treatment. Other major applications include agricultural, food and beverage, and laboratory use.

Multi-million dollar order for nuclear power plants

Curtiss-Wright has signed an agreement with Westinghouse Electric Company LLC to provide reactor coolant pumps (RCPs) for up to four AP1000TM Generation III+ commercial nuclear power plants or a total of 32 RCPs.

Further, Curtiss-Wright has received purchase orders, valued in excess of US$300 million, to supply the first 24 domestic AP1000 RCPs. These will be used in Westinghouse's AP1000 design reactors, which will produce 1,100 megawatts each.

Pump Industry Awards

Don't miss out on the chance to showcase your achievements to the pump industry by entering this year's Pump Industry Awards. The submission for nominations is 30 May.

This year's Pump Industry Awards will be held on Wednesday 19 November, in the Hilton hotel, Coventry, UK.

The awards, which are being held in association with World Pumps and the British Pump Manufacturers Assocaition (BPMA), will acknowledge the companies, innovations and people that have achieved the highest professional standards and have helped to drive industry forward.

Rotork wins supply contract for electric valve actuators

Rotork has won a framework agreement for the supply of electric valve actuators to a UK water and wastewater services company, Thames Water. The exclusive agreement is set to run for a minimum of three years.

The majority of actuators supplied will be the IQ and IQT models. Thames Water was amongst the first of the UK 's water companies to use Rotork's IQ ‘non-intrusive' intelligent actuator technologies when first launched in 1993. Rotork's two-wire control capabilities, particularly regarding Profibus networks, were also important contributors to the Thames Water decision.

Material differences and gasket efficiency in low load conditions

Many factors affect the performance of the ubiquitous gaskets that provide critical seals between pipe segments and ensure the satisfactory operation of a broad range of industrial equipment. But no factor is more important than compressive load. Jim Drago from Garlock Sealing Technologies looks at how different gasket materials can cope in low load conditions.

Abrasive material transfer pump

Moyno has launched the 2000 CC® close-coupled pump which, according to the company, has powerful pumping capabilities that can enhance performance and extend service life to reduce bottom line costs.

The 2000 CC pump, Moyno says, has space-saving compact size and rugged gear joint drive design that offers cost-effective, dependable pumping action. All internal parts are interchangeable with other Moyno 2000 pumps.

Designed to efficiently transfer abrasive, high-solids content materials, the 2000 CC pump utilizes Ultra-Drive® gear-joint technology. Moyno claims that the pump effectively handles radial and thrust loads and that its integral gear motors pinned to the pump drive shaft and access ports in the larger models make it easier to assemble and disassemble.

Longer life for submersible pump

Global Energy Services Ltd has announced the extended run life of its Hydraulic Submersible Pump (HSP). The HSP has recently achieved two year run life in a horizontal Coalbed Methane (CBM) well for a CBM producer.

This is the longest running downhole pump for this CBM producer. According to Global Energy, of the 40 HSP systems currently in operation throughout Alberta and British Columbia, nine have over one year run life, while several others are nearing the one year run life.

Motors with duct-system design

GE Motors has developed a range of motors that feature a patent-pending duct-system design that allows for a smaller footprint with increased output per frame size and greater energy efficiency than a TEAAC Custom 8000 motor from the company. The Quantum LMV motor range can also help reduce lifecycle costs and increase payback.

The new motors are compact and are suitable for retrofits or operations with space constraints. They are suitable for the petrochemical, pulp and paper, power generation, water and wastewater, and mining industries for such applications as pumps, blowers, compressors and conveyors.
