Motortech’s Ignition Control Repair Business

Celle, Germany-based Motortech GmbH not only manufactures and sells various types of gas engine components, but is also one of a few companies specializing in performing repairs on all types of ignition controllers. Whether it is Motortech’s own devices, or those from other ignition OEMs, the company has built up its knowledge on repairing ignition controllers over the past 20 years.

With a combination of aving specialized repair and testing equipment and documentation gathered out of their own field experience and the Internet, Motortech uses its own trained and skilled personnel to lead in this field of service, according to the company. In-house repair standards and procedures have been reliable support for engine operators all over the world.

The repairs include basic circuit board overhaul, as well as the replacement of all components subject to wearing out. These services are carried out through either a flat-rate fee or upon agreement after quotation. Ignition control repairs include the following procedures: documentation after arrival of the unit; visual inspection for obvious malfunctions; function check on test bench with appropriate trigger disc according to customer specifications; reporting of problem and quotation, if required; cleaning; exchange of components that are faulty and subject to wear; 48-hour burn-in test at full energy load with 50ºC temperature for testing the input and output channels; oscil- loscope test with printout; and final test at full energy load to check mechanical functions like timing control, pick-up, etc. Upon arrival, the repair procedures typically take one week, including testing.

The complete service documentation will be put on file so that Motortech, as well as the customer, have a possible source for solving future problems with their ignition controllers. In extraordinary repairs there is also a photo documentation made before and after repair, or upon request. The repaired units leave the repair facility with a one-year warranty.
