Metso has received a US$40.7 million (€30 million) order to supply a gasifier to sustain new gasification technology to Göteborg Energi AB’s GoBiGas20MW project, which is scheduled to be operational in early 2013.
The project focuses on producing biogas by gasification of biofuels and waste from forestry, Metso said. A demo gasification plant is scheduled to be built in two stages to showcase the technology of the green gas concept.
Ownership and responsibility for operating the plant will be transferred to GoBiGas AB (Gothenburg Biomass Gasification Project), owned mainly by Göteborg Energi AB. Metso will be involved in the first stage when the gasification plant is built on the existing premises of Rya Värmecentral in Gothenburg, Sweden from 2011 to 2013. The final plant will have a 100 MW biogas capacity with an operating period of 8000 hours per year, Metso said.
