Tognum announced a US$34.5 million (€26 million) order for four MTU emergency power supply generator sets to two Chinese nuclear power plants in Fuqing, China.
The gen-sets, which will be delivered in December 2012 and August 2013, are based on 20V 956 TB33 diesel engines rated 6000 kW (24 MW total) and are certified to Class 1E safety. During a power outage, the gen-sets are able to reach full power within 10 seconds, according to the company.
The order has been placed to a consortium between Shanxi North MTU Diesel Co. Ltd. (SNMD) and AREVA, a nuclear energy company. In the consortium, MTU is playing a large role in developing and engineering the emergency power plant, Tognum said.
