Fairbanks Provides Power To U.S. Navy
Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, has received a contract to supply two Fairbanks Morse Colt-Pielstick 16-cylinder PA6B STC propulsion diesel engines for the U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program.
The contract follows the Navy’s recent decision to purchase 10 additional LCS ships designed by Lockheed Martin Corp. and constructed by Wisconsin, U.S.A., shipbuilder Marinette Marine Corp.
Over the course of the LCS program, the 10 ships will be powered by two Colt-Pielstick engines, which together provide more than 12 677 kW as part of a propulsion system that enables the ship to run at low speeds, but still exceed 40 knots to meet mission requirements, according to Fairbanks Morse Engine. The Fairbanks Morse Colt-Pielstick PA6B STC diesel engines will be manufactured and tested at the company’s facility in Beloit, Wisconsin, U.S.A.
