Over the summer, Caterpillar’s Prog ress Rail Services finalized the purchase of EMD for US$820 million in cash from Berkshire Partners LLC and Greenbriar Equity Group LLC.
EMD will remain headquartered in LaGrange, Illinois, U.S.A. John Hamilton will continue as president and CEO of EMD and will report to Billy Ainsworth, Progress Rail CEO.
Classification and Certification
EMD received China Classification Society (CCS) Certificate of Approval for its 710 GC family of marine diesel engines. In addition, the 710GC-T2 family received IMO Tier 2 emission certification. EMD’s engines are U.S. EPA Tier 2 certified as well as being certified by AB, DNV, BV, Lloyds and KR classification societies.
New emission kits for EMD’s Model 645 and 710 engines received U.S. EPA certification for emission reduction according to EPA rule 40 CFR Part 1042, which requires a 25% reduction in particulate matter emissions. EMD said the kits also reduce oil lube consumption by more than 25% and reduce fuel consumption by up to 3% over EPA-defined marine duty cycles.
