ALGESCO, a joint company between Sonatrach, Sonelgaz and GE, officially opened its new Service Center in Boufarik, about 35 km from Algiers in Algeria.
Covering about 18 300 m², the new facility is the largest GE Oil & Gas turbomachinery equipment service center in the world and is a US$36 million investment designed to support the continued growth of Algeria’s oil and gas and power generation sectors, according to ALGESCO.
The facility will serve as a global location for turbomachinery services and will provide a range of advanced technologies to help Algeria increase its oil and gas capacity and its power generation availability. Other services include restoring gas turbine components and the original physical features of materials, ALGESCO said.
The facility will have 170 Algerian ALGESCO employees, which include 90 field engineers. A recruitment program for field service engineers, management and shop technicians will look to enlarge the local team by 30% between now and the end of 2011.
