Bombardier And Trenitalia Sign Locomotive Contract

Trenitalia (Italian Railways) awarded Bombardier Transportation a new order, valued at US$383 million to supply an additional 100 of its E464 electric locomotives. This order follows previous orders for a total of 638 of the E464 locomotives, 480 of which are already in commercial service. The contract includes an option for an additional 50 locomotives. Delivery of the locomotives is scheduled for between 2010 and 2011.

With this additional order, Trenitalia will be operating one of the largest single vehicle-type fleets in Europe. In addition to the locomotives being manufactured in Vado Ligure, the carbodies and Bombardier Mitrac propulsion equipment will be supplied respectively by sites in Wroclaw, Poland and Trapaga, Spain.

The E464 locomotives has a maximum power of 3.5 MW and a top-speed of 160 km/h.
